Rowena Hayter

The inspiration for my work comes from cranes and construction sites – the raw elegance of the equipment represents limitless potential in what it can build, but are often overlooked themselves. The utilitarian designs are striking: the structures and colours chosen primarily for strength and safety. However this combination makes these graceful giants into beautiful forms - gargantuan and balletic. These elements combine in my collection: which focuses on line, form and pattern, taking different elements and abstracting them, through printmaking, into fluid new shapes to be realised in metal, aiming to still keep the urban bluntness of the building site at the core.
